Good blog! But this is too responsible,
"What strikes me as menacing is the possibility of an expansion of the already explosive civil war and increasing regional segmentation should the US decide to call its troops back. Stability will doubtless be lost. A great deal of time will be needed for the conflict to resolve itself, not to mention that the country will be left to its disarray, in an arguably worse shape than it was before the war began."

The American forces have lost the war in Iraq, their local supporters are being terrorised and are fleeing, the yare not in control, their presence is probably making things worse and providing non-stop training to new recruits of violent "Jihadists". Iraq is already in worse shape than it was before the war, staying will not make it better. The only question is how to withdraw. The obvious answer is with the co-operation with Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey, none of whom want a civil war that will suck them into years of warfare.
